On August 28th, the CMLES Staff Congress opening the 2019-2020 school year was held in the Sherman Jen Library of the Dalian Maple Leaf Education Park. Dr. Sherman Jen, founder of Maple Leaf Education and Chairman of the Board of Directors, along with Board Members, System Leaders and all Chinese and foreign employees from all campuses attended either in person, or through video-conferencing.
James Beeke, Executive Director and Maple Leaf Global Education Supervisor, spoke on behalf of the System’s Board of Directors, welcoming the attendees. Mr. Beeke used the metaphor of a large tree growing from a seedling to describe the growth of Maple Leaf over the past 24 years. He emphasized that all Maple Leaf staff and students are leaves on the tree, and their hard work has contributed to its growth.
Dr. Jen highlighted the accomplishments of the past year in his presentation of the 23rd work report, including the establishment of a second education district – Hubei Maple Leaf Education District, 15 successful High School inspections by the BC Ministry of Education, the high quality of our primary schools, and AdvancEd/Cognia certification of all elementary and middle schools. In the past academic year, with the joint efforts of all Maple Leaf staff, a net increase of 10,000 students was achieved over the school year. A goal for continued annual growth of 10,000 students per year was set. Maple Leaf Graduates have achieved even better results than last year with a new high of 73.3% of graduates being accepted to ML Top 100 Universities. In September this year, Jinan Maple Leaf Bilingual School will become the 100th school in the Maple Leaf System. These major achievements embody the efforts and determination of the Maple Leaf staff and reflect a year of positive development.
Ms. Zhang Jingxia, senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, presented Boutique campus awards for Dalian Primary School District, Tianjin Huayuan Campus and Huai’an Campus; Ren Hongge, Vice President and Research Director of the systems, presented the Maple Leaf Innovation Award to the ESL Department, the Foreign Recruitment Office, Wuhan Campus and Shanghai Campus; Chen Linsheng, the System’s Vice President and Chinese Superintendent, announced the fourth “Maple Leaf Master Teacher” to 10 deserving teachers.
Dr. Jen ended his presentation of the 23rd work report by looking ahead to a new phase: “The new school year is the year of the end of the 5th Five-Year Plan. Let us work together and work hard to achieve the development goal of the fifth year of the 5th Five-Year Plan!”
