Annual International Walk for Peace

Since the 2013 – 2014 school year, Maple Leaf Foreign Nationals School has taken part in the International Day of World Peace, with the official day being September 21.

In the weeks leading up to this day, children are engaged in activities in their classrooms that promote learning about one another, about different countries, tolerance and acceptance of one another, and what PEACE looks, sounds and feels like to them.

This year, we reached out to our friends at the Dalian Korean International School and invited them to participate with us.  As a nod to our “Green Initiative”, we decided that this year’s theme would be around “Peace to our Planet” with a focus on environment.  Our student ambassador presented our guests with a spider-plant grown from one of our spiderlings at our school.  We have now “Spread the Green” beyond our school and hope that DKIS will do the same.  Overall the day was a great success.  Thank you to all that coordinated and participated.  A special thank you needs to go out to our local Police Department for providing traffic control to ensure student safety.
